LehmanSoft grid-scale battery storage in Japan

Grid-Scale Battery Operation & Aggregation Service in Japan

We don't just sell software. We operate our own 2MW / 8.1MWh grid battery in Japan — and we can operate yours.

If you own (or are building) MW-scale storage in Japan and you're based offshore, the hard part isn't the asset. It's running it every day inside one of the world's most complex, fastest-changing power markets — in Japanese, against the clock of JEPX gate closures and balancing-market dispatch.

LehmanSoft is a Japanese local battery aggregator and operator (運用代行). We commissioned our own grid-scale BESS in Chichibu City, Saitama, and it is already running commercial energy-arbitrage operations on JEPX. We are on the ground here — dealing with OCCTO, the TSOs and JEPX in Japanese, every day, on our own asset — and we bring that hands-on experience to yours. (We also report and communicate with international owners in English.)

How a Japanese grid battery earns — and where we operate

We run multi-market optimization across the three revenue layers, and we're honest that the mix shifts as the rules change:

Multi-market revenue stack (operated together, not chased one at a time)JEPX wholesaleCapacity / LTDABalancingSpot & intraday arbitrage —the layer our Saitama asset runs today.20-yr fixed (LTDA),6-hour minimum to qualify.Shrinking in 2026cap ¥19.51→¥15/ΔkW·30minBalancing was once the headline; from 13 Mar 2026 its premium cap is cut (and may stage lower). That is exactly why disciplined, software-driven dispatch across all three layers matters.

To do this we provide AI-VPP dispatch (forecast-driven, co-optimized across markets), 24/7 monitoring of asset health and market gates, and monthly owner reporting in English.

Why LehmanSoft — vs the alternatives

Japan has more announced battery capacity than operating, dispatched capacity. Our edge is simple: we're on the operating side of that line.

Who this is for

Foreign IPPs, infrastructure funds and developers who own or are commissioning MW-scale BESS in Japan and need a trustworthy local Japanese operator — one that also reports in English. You're a fit if you:

  • Hold or are developing a grid-connected battery (typically several MW / 6+ hours) and want it dispatched, not parked.
  • Report to an investment committee, lenders and board in English, but need an operator who speaks to OCCTO, the TSOs and JEPX in Japanese.
  • Would rather outsource daily operation to a team already doing this on its own balance sheet than build a Tokyo trading desk from scratch.

Fee model

Pure success fee — no base fee, no retainer

We are paid only a share of the trading revenue we generate for your asset. There is no base operating fee and no fixed retainer — if your battery doesn't earn, we don't get paid. Our incentive is identical to yours, and we take that bet because we run our own asset and know what it can do.

Exact terms scale with asset size, contracted obligations and the markets you want to address. We'll model it against your specific project.

FAQ

What does operation outsourcing (運用代行) actually cover?

Market participation, charge/discharge dispatch, monitoring and revenue management for your grid-scale battery — JEPX trading, capacity/LTDA obligations and balancing-market operation, with monthly owner reporting. One partner from market access to settlement.

Why outsource instead of building an in-house Tokyo trading desk?

Japan’s markets are complex and changing fast (new JEPX platform, 2026 balancing-market reform, 6-hour capacity rules). Building and staffing a desk that masters all of it is slow and costly. We already do this on our own asset, so you get a running capability on day one.

Can you operate an existing battery, and different manufacturers?

Yes. We are multi-vendor — new or existing, we connect to each maker’s battery and PCS. We assess the asset, its grid connection and contracted obligations, then operate it across the markets it qualifies for.

How is the fee structured?

We work on a pure success-fee basis — a share of the trading revenue we generate, with no base operating fee and no fixed retainer. If your battery doesn’t earn, we don’t get paid, so our incentive is identical to yours. The exact share scales with asset size and the markets you address.

Do you report and communicate in English?

Yes. We deal with OCCTO, the TSOs and JEPX in Japanese on the ground, and report to international owners, lenders and boards in English — no translation layer between you and your asset.
